The ringed cross has been an distinctively Celtic variation of the symbol of Christ’s victory over death since ancient time in Scotland, Ireland, Wales and those parts of the British Isles that were under the influence of the early Celtic Church. It is far and away the most popular page on the original web site that we made to promote our Celtic jewelry back when the web was new.  The history and evolution of Celtic art and jewelry has been a lifelong study for me.  I have learned a lot since I wrote this piece. The article has since been supplemented with two other short essays that delve into the Celtic cross as it has been created and perceived since the Celtic Revival.  If some of it seems familiar when you read it, that may be because it has been cut and pasted into hundreds of other web pages, including sites based in Scotland and Ireland.
